Sonocracy

Sonocracy is an electronic music project created by Alex Preda and Dragos Marcai, two Romanian DJ’s living in Amsterdam. Their unique name describes the fuel that fires their mixes: Sonocracy is derived from the Latin “Sonos” (sound) and the Greek “Kratos” (power). They have been spinning together since early 2008. What began as a bit of fun between two friends turned to become long sessions of experimental music blends, slowly bringing them closer to finding a sound of their own: electronic stories full of hard, powerful and unusual arrangements. The saying, “opposites attract” is definitely true in some instances! Here we have two opposing forces that complete each other, two different styles approaching the same mixer: Alex combines trance elements with techno and tech-house while Dragos mashes groovy minimal with deep or funky house. Sonocracy‘s work became more serious at the end of 2009, when they co-organized the “MOVE” event in Amsterdam and made a huge splash with their performance – a recreation of the “American Beauty” movie through music. When asked what their mission is, Dragos shortly replies he wants to “make people feel sexy”, while Alex more elaborately confesses he gets his kicks teasing the party crowd, making people “burn with desire to move” and then, by suddenly bringing the beat back, “making them burst into dance, put their hands up and scream for more”.
